Hello, I'm Anya and I'm a currently in year 12, I've spent my week doing work experience with Phase Hitchin which has given me incredible insight into how they support young people, so far, I've enjoyed helping out with workshops because I've been able to directly engage with students and see their unique perspectives. It has been interesting to see how activities can spark such different conversations among the students; and I have learned a lot through seeing firsthand the positive changes in the students' attitudes by the end of the sessions.
After A levels I am planning to go on to Cliff College. I have grown up in the church, and it has always been my favourite place to be, partly due to the strong sense of community I've been surrounded with, so a bible college just makes sense to me. As well as this, I have always loved volunteering for church events like holiday clubs, which have shown me the value of hands-on ministry; along with this, I’m also interested in diving deeper into the bible and how it has shaped history and culture, which has definitely played a part in planning for the future.
Additionally, I'm very into stories, whether its movies, books or just memories, and I think that this fits well with both Phase and Cliff College, as I find there are narratives connecting people and sharing faith in both environments.
I chose Phase for my work experience because I wanted to be directly involved with practical work, and I believe it will be useful experience for my future, considering a noticeable overlap between the church and community work. Ultimately, this week has helped to reassure me that I am on the right path toward a career centred around helping others.
